How to use this calculator
- 01Choose the shape that best matches one section.
- 02Enter its measured dimensions and add it to the plan.
- 03Repeat for each section, then use the total in a material calculator.
Assumptions and limitations
What the estimate assumes
- Every section is level when viewed from above.
- Circle input is the full diameter, not the radius.
- Sections do not overlap; overlapping sections would be counted twice.
What it does not determine
- Curved or complex boundaries are approximations.
- Sloped surface area is greater than plan-view area.
- Measurement and shape-selection errors carry into the total.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure an irregular yard?
Divide it into rectangles, triangles, and circles or semicircles. Measure each section separately and add each one to the plan.
Can I calculate a semicircle?
Yes. Add a circle using the full diameter, then choose the half-circle option.
Should I add waste to an area?
Keep the measured area accurate, then add the appropriate waste allowance in the material calculator. Waste varies by material and layout.
